Pennsylvania – Clinton’s last chance
Pennsylvania, which holds its primaries on April 22nd, is the last big primary of this campaign and Sen. Clinton has to win it, if she wants to stay in the race until August.
In Pennsylvania are 158 delegates at stake. If Clinton would win them all (which means she would beat Obama 100% to 0%), it would be a tight race (Obama and Clinton would have 1619 delegates). But why has Hillary Clinton got to win in Pennsylvania?
During last weeks, the Senator from New York claimed, she is the only one, who can win ‘big’ states (states “you have to win as democrate” (Hillary Clinton)). But what if she would lose Pennsylvania, then Barack Obama can easily defeat her (not only in delegates numbers). Pennsylvania is Hillary Clinton last hope for her ‘big dream’, cause Obama is leading in North Carolina (latest poll: Obama leads by 21 points). North Carolina holds its primaries on May 6th and there are 115 delegates at stake. So in order to catch Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton has to make an excellent result next month. But Obama, who will start his bus tour through Pennsylvania tomorrow, is doing fine (in polls and primaries/caucuses) after he travelled through a state, for example could he catch up Hillary’s 20 points lead in New Hampshire.
Time is a factor which obviously plays for the Senator from Illinois. After Clinton was leading with 22 points in Texas, Obama had only 2 weeks to catch her up. Obama finally won the delegate fight in Texas. Now he has 4 weeks to catch Hillary’s lead and he’s certainly thankful for her story about the “landing in Bosnia under sniper fire”. And even the remarks from the Clinton campaign for Bill Richardson’s endorsement are a welcome package for Obama and his camapign. After given an excellent speech about race in our society, about Iraq war and National security and about the costs of this war, Obama’s popularity in America and through the world increased.
I want to finish this post by saying:
- Obama is NOT a rassist and does NOT hate ‘white people’ (otherwise he would hate himself as well (his mother was ‘white’, and so were his grandparents)
- Obama is NOT a muslim. His father was NOT a muslim (to be correct, his father was an atheist)
For every Obama fan out there, let’s enjoy these weeks before the Pennsylvania primary. Ok, we can expect more hateful statements from Hillary Clinton and her campaign, but this is only cause she knows it as well. She knows that she doesn’t win this nomination and she just wants to stay in race, for the same reasons Mike Huckabee did on the Republican side.
On May 7th, we’ll have this nomination. A chorus of millions calling for change can never ever be destroyed. I’m looking forward to the upcoming days and weeks, and I am sure Obama will catch Clinton in Pennsylvania after his bus tour.

Obama winning PA is next to impossible, but if we could pull off a miracle, we could end the nomination fight. If he wins PA by one vote it’s over. It’s a long shot, but definitely one worth fighting for. I grew up in South Jersey outside Philadelphia, and plan to go home every weekend that I can to help out. I was there last weekend, and am reasonably optimistic about turnout among African Americans and a decent showing among whites, at least in the eastern part of the state.
